Sonangol signs cooperation agreements with MIT to strengthen innovation

The agreements were signed on Friday in Boston, in the northeastern United States, during an official visit by a delegation led by Angola’s Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum, and Gas, Diamantino Pedro Azevedo. The delegation included representatives from public sector companies, administrators, and senior executives.

The instruments, named the MIT Industrial Liaison Program (MIT-ILP) and MIT Africa, cover areas such as natural resources and mining, energy, engineering, construction, and infrastructure through programs like the Global Classroom and the Global Teaching Labs.

According to Sonangol, the agreements have short, medium, and long-term impacts, structured around strategic pillars that include higher education, knowledge transfer, mentoring, joint scientific research, energy transition, decarbonization solutions, and technological innovation projects.

The oil company emphasized that the partnership with MIT is part of efforts to modernize and diversify Angola’s energy sector, aligning with global sustainability goals and the development of technical and scientific skills in the country.

On the Angolan side, the contracts were signed by Sonangol’s Chairman of the Board, Sebastião Gaspar Martins, while MIT was represented by Executive Vice President Glan Shor.
