The captaincy of the port of Funchal has extended the strong sea disturbance warning for the coastline of the Madeira archipelago until 18:00 on this Sunday.

In a statement, the captaincy said that the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) is forecasting a north/northwest wind for the Madeira archipelago, “moderate to fresh, sometimes very cool until the middle of the night and during the afternoon”.

On the north coast, the waves will be from the north/northwest, two to three meters, rising to three to four meters during the night. On the south coast they will be westerly with one to two meters.

Visibility is expected to be “good to moderate”.

In view of this situation, the regional maritime authority recommends that boat owners and owners take the necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
