A 72-year-old man has been sentenced to ten months in prison due to his long history as a pickpocket, announced the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the Public Security Police (Cometlis).
The arrest warrant was executed on June 6 by investigators from the Joint Force for Combating Pickpockets, as stated in a communication issued on Saturday.
The statement noted that the arrest of this Portuguese national, described as a “well-known figure,” was carried out “for stealing a wallet containing €11.35 at a bus stop in Cais do Sodré on March 6, 2019.”
Authorities explained that, at the time, due to the nature of the petty theft and lack of criminal proceedings, “police could not detain him, but they have now succeeded in arresting him and conducting him to the prison facility to serve his sentence.”
