The European Commission announced that EU legislation aimed at simplifying the networks and costs of fiber optics and 5G has come into effect.
The set of rules, which must be implemented by the 27 countries of the European economic-political bloc, aims to address “persistent challenges” faced by telecommunications operators. They also enable the development of more complex networks capable of supporting advancements in artificial intelligence and cloud services.
The European Commission anticipates that these measures will streamline the processes of expanding telecommunications networks. This will be achieved through infrastructure sharing, coordination of work between different operators, and the “digitalization of authorization processes for installing infrastructures.”
The specifics of these EU rules need to be applied “within a few months” by the member countries, reminded the Commission led by Ursula von der Leyen.
