Wolverhampton defender Toti Gomes is the new recruit for the Portuguese national soccer team for the qualifying matches against Bosnia-Herzegovina (June 17) and Iceland (June 20).

Born in Guinea-Bissau, 24-year-old Toti Gomes made 17 appearances in the 2022/23 edition of the Premier League for the Wolves.

In relation to the first convocation of the Spanish coach, on March 17, the returns of Nélson Semedo, also from Wolverhampton, Renato Sanches, from Paris Saint-Germain, and Ricardo Horta, from Sporting de Braga, are also news.

With the entrance of these four players, Nuno Mendes leaves, due to injury, João Mário, who resigned from the national team, and Diogo Leite and Matheus Nunes, both apparently due to a technical option.

Still in the list are veterans Cristiano Ronaldo, 38, who can reach 200 ‘AA’ internationalizations (he has 198) and 122 goals since 2003, and Pepe, 40, with 133 games and eight goals since 2007.

The Portuguese national soccer team receives Bosnia-Herzegovina on June 17, at Estádio da Luz, in Lisbon, and travels three days later to Reykjavik, to face Iceland, in Group J matches for qualifying for the European Championship 2024.

In the first two meetings in the grouping, Portugal was beaten 4-0 by Liechtenstein on March 23, and 6-0 by Luxembourg on March 26.

In the standings, and after two of 10 rounds, the group of ‘Quinas’ leads, already alone, with six points, against four of Slovakia, three of Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iceland, one of Luxembourg and none of Liechtenstein.

List of 26 people:

– Goalkeepers: Diogo Costa (FC Porto), José Sá (Wolverhampton, Ing) and Rui Patrício (Roma, Ita).
