The circulation on the IP2 in Nisa, district of Portalegre, was halted in both directions and resumed after the removal of the truck involved in the accident.
The victims were identified as the drivers of the two vehicles: a 40-year-old man driving the passenger vehicle and a 31-year-old man driving the truck, who was carbonized when the truck caught fire, as reported by the Alto Alentejo Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command.
Both men were trapped in their vehicles, and death was declared on-site by the doctor from Portalegre’s emergency medical and resuscitation vehicle (VMER).
The accident occurred at kilometer 161, between the villages of Arez and Amieira do Tejo in the municipality of Nisa, with the alert being raised at 17:02 on Friday, according to the sub-regional command.
Emergency operations included 38 personnel, assisted by 12 vehicles and an emergency medical helicopter from the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), which was not ultimately utilized.
