Woman seriously injured in paragliding accident in Alcobaça

A woman was seriously injured following a paragliding accident in São Martinho do Porto, in the municipality of Alcobaça, as confirmed by the Sub-regional Command for Emergency and Civil Protection of the West.

The victim is described as a woman “around 35 years old” and was transported to Caldas da Rainha Hospital.

The causes of the accident have not yet been determined.

The alert was issued at 1:11 PM, with 17 operatives on site supported by seven vehicles, including the Instituto de Socorros a Náufragos (ISN), São Martinho do Porto Volunteer Firefighters, and the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM).

In a statement sent to newsrooms, the National Maritime Authority (AMN) indicated that the woman “was found in the surf zone of Gralha beach, in the municipality of Alcobaça.”

“During search operations coordinated by the Captain of the Port and Local Commander of the Maritime Police of Nazaré, the victim was detected by the São Martinho do Porto Volunteer Firefighters. The woman was removed from the water to the sand of the beach by the crew of the Nazaré Lifeboat Station, elements of the Maritime Police, and firefighters,” the statement read.

The Local Command of the Maritime Police of Nazaré has taken over the case.
