According to official data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), the monthly variation reflects a slight slowdown of 0.17 percentage points compared to April (22.32% year-on-year). The accumulated inflation since the beginning of the year reached 7.37%.
The “Food and non-alcoholic beverages” category continues to be the main driver of inflation, with an increase of 1.25% from April and a contribution of 0.76 percentage points to the monthly variation of the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI), equivalent to about 65% of the total.
In addition to food, notable increases were seen in the categories of “Miscellaneous goods and services” (1.63%), “Health” (1.41%), “Furniture, household equipment, and maintenance” (1.31%), and “Alcoholic beverages and tobacco” (1.28%).
By province, Cabinda recorded the highest monthly variation (1.76%), followed by Cuanza Norte (1.69%) and Bié (1.54%).
Conversely, Cunene (0.65%), Zaire (0.82%), and Luanda (0.93%) registered the lowest price increases.
In the province of Luanda, which carries significant weight in the NCPI, year-on-year inflation dropped to 19.78%, 2.41 percentage points less than the previous month.
The category with the highest variation was also “Miscellaneous goods and services” (1.92%), with food being responsible for the most significant individual contribution to the index’s increase, with 0.60 percentage points, or about 65% of the total variation.
Inflation in Angola has been slowing down since peaking at 31.09% in July 2024.
