According to João Noel Afonso, the Sub-Regional Commander of Emergency and Civil Protection of Terras de Trás-os-Montes, the fire is “considered active, despite being a small front, but the location is completely inaccessible to ground resources, very rocky and steep.”

“An aerial resource is now dropping water to try to control this small front at the bottom of the ravine. The complexity lies in actually reaching the area, as ground resources cannot access it,” the official said via telephone around 9:30 AM.

João Noel Afonso stated that the fire is now of “small dimensions, having been consolidated during the night, remaining only in the ravine.”

With the aerial resource in action, the Sub-Regional Commander of Emergency and Civil Protection of Terras de Trás-os-Montes added that he hopes “to completely control it in the next few hours.”

“The issue at hand is really the complexity of the location, not the severity,” João Noel Afonso emphasized.

The alert for the fire in Carregosa was given at 6:55 PM on Saturday. As of 9:30 AM today, it was being fought by 74 operatives, supported by 24 ground resources and one aerial resource.
