Workers at Atlantic Ferries, which provides connections between Setúbal and Troia, suspended this weekend the partial strikes for wage increases started on the 7th, after a pre-agreement reached during the week, according to a union source.
Speaking to the Lusa agency, Carlos Costa, of the Federation of Transport and Communications Unions (Fectrans), which called the strike, said the strike was suspended this weekend following a pre-agreement reached during the week and which will be implemented next Tuesday.
Atlantic Ferries workers began partial strikes on July 7, scheduled to last until the end of July, for wage increases, with an impact on river transportation between the two banks of the Sado.
In addition to the partial strikes of two hours per shift, an overtime strike was also planned from July 4 to September 30.
Both will be permanently suspended with the deal being finalized on Tuesday, Carlos Costa added.
According to Carlos Costa explained to Lusa at the start of the strike, Atlantic Ferries workers demanded a 10% wage increase in 2024 to cope with rising inflation and a new form of remuneration for overtime work that would be more advantageous, especially since a significant increase in overtime work is expected in the coming weeks due to World Youth Day Lisbon.
Contacted at the time by Lusa, Atlantic Ferries assured that it was “available to, directly and together with the trade unions involved, find solutions that bring the interests of workers and the company closer together”, stressing that this position was transmitted to the unions and union delegates.
