Bad weather is today affecting traffic at Madeira International Airport – Cristiano Ronaldo, having caused the cancellation of 14 arrivals and 13 departures by early evening, ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal said.
According to the ANA website, consulted by Lusa at around 20:00, the last plane to land in Madeira arrived at 11:48.
In addition to the cancellations of departures and arrivals, the scheduled flights of Ryanair and Wizz Air Hungary from Lisbon and Katowice (Poland), respectively, were canceled.
The Captaincy of the Port of Funchal has extended the bad weather warning for Madeira’s coastline until 06:00 on Friday due to forecasts of very strong wind, sea turbulence and poor visibility.
The warning is based on indications from the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), which has placed the archipelago under a yellow warning for wind, rain and sea turbulence, aggravated to orange in mountainous areas and on the south coast of the island of Madeira from 15:00 today until 03:00 on Friday.
