If you’re planning outdoor activities for the weekend, there’s good news, as Saturday is expected to be sunny with clear or slightly cloudy skies in mainland Portugal. There will be a slight decrease in maximum temperatures in the North and Center, but temperatures will remain above 30 degrees Celsius in almost the entire territory.
According to the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), today’s forecast is “clear or slightly cloudy skies, temporarily cloudy in the coastal strip north of Cabo Raso until mid-morning, and becoming generally very cloudy on the North and Center coast at the end of the day.”
Light to moderate winds (up to 30 km/h) from the north-northwest are expected, with southwest winds on the southern coast of the Algarve during the afternoon. Winds may occasionally be strong (up to 40 km/h) on the western coastal strip and in highland areas, especially from the afternoon onwards.
A “decrease in maximum temperature in the North and Center coast” is also predicted. Maximum temperatures will vary between 40 degrees Celsius in Évora and Beja, and 25 degrees in Aveiro. Minimum temperatures will range from 24 degrees in Portalegre to 17 degrees in Braga.
Due to the heat, IPMA has placed the districts of Portalegre, Beja, and Évora under an orange warning (the second most severe) at least until late Saturday afternoon.
Several other districts are under a yellow warning (the least severe) due to persistently high temperatures.
