Cerca de 1.000 bombeiros combatem fogos em Odemira, Ourém e Mangualde

About 1,000 firefighters fought early this morning the three ongoing fires that raise the most concerns to the authorities, in Odemira, Ourém and Mangualde, according to civil protection.

According to information available on the ‘site’ of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), the fire that started in São Teotónio, Odemira, on Saturday is the one that most means mobilized by 07:25, with a total of 566 operational, supported by 202 vehicles.

This fire, no Beja district, already forced to evacuate four locations in Odemira county (Vale dos Alhos, Water Valley, Choça dos Vales and Relva Grande) and another Rural Tourism unit, a total of more than 100 people removed.

In a note published on the official page of the municipality on the social network Facebook, the Odemira Chamber revealed that the president, Hélder Guerreiro, determined the activation of the Municipal Emergency Plan and Civil Protection, with effect at 14:30 Sunday.

According to the information available on the ‘site’ of ANEPC, the fire that broke out on Sunday in Ourém, in the district of Santarém, mobilized early this morning 339 operational, supported by 103 vehicles.

Already during the early hours of today, by 03:00, another fire broke out in Mangualde, in the district of Viseu, which by 07:25 mobilized 59 operational, supported by 15 vehicles.

According to the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), more than 120 interior municipalities North and Center and the districts of Beja and Faro are today in maximum danger of fire.

Given the weather forecasts for the coming days, the Government is considering declaring alert situation due to the high danger of rural fires, said today the Secretary of State for Civil Protection.

Since the beginning of the year, the more than 5,529 fire occurrences have affected 19,106 hectares of rural spaces.
