The fire that has been burning since Wednesday in the Autonomous Region of Madeira has now covered the city of Funchal in smoke.
Images circulating on social media show how the flames and smoke column are now visible from various points in the Funchal municipality.
On Saturday, the Funchal municipality informed that it was prepared to evacuate the Vasco Gil kennel, “although there is no imminent danger in the municipality at the moment.”
“Preventive measures are prepared, including vehicles and identification of locations where animals can be accommodated if an urgent evacuation is necessary,” the Funchal City Council stated in a note.
Other internet users also report that the flames are now visible in São Vicente, although local firefighters have not confirmed that the fire has entered that municipality.
The fire that broke out on Wednesday in Madeira has three active fronts, and as of today, it is supported by 76 members of the joint force that came from the mainland.
