The districts of Bragança, Viseu, Guarda, Vila Real, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Braga, Coimbra, Leiria, Porto, Viana do Castelos and Viseu will be on yellow alert between 12:00 and 21:00 today, says the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
In the Setúbal and Lisbon districts, the yellow alert ends at 9:00 am today.
The IPMA is forecasting showers, sometimes heavy, hail and thunderstorms, with winds from the southern quadrant blowing at times strongly along the coast and in the highlands.
Maximum temperatures are expected to drop slightly in the Centre and South, with periods of very cloudy skies.
Periods of rain or showers, sometimes heavy, hail and thunderstorms are expected in the northern and central regions.
Winds will be light to moderate (up to 30 kilometers per hour – km/h) from the southern quadrant, moderate to strong (25 to 40 km/h) on the west coast, with gusts up to 70 km/h, diminishing in intensity in the southern region from late afternoon onwards.
In the highlands, the wind will be moderate to strong (30 to 45 km/h) from the southern quadrant, with gusts up to 75 km/h.
