A 34-year-old man was arrested in Madeira on suspicion of committing the crime of child pornography, the Judicial Police (PJ) said today.

The note states that the man was arrested in flagrante delicto and that “hundreds of image and video files compatible with child pornography content were seized from the computer equipment used by the defendant” during a house search.

The arrest was prompted by a complaint from the mother of a 14-year-old girl, who said that the detainee was using a fake profile, chatting with her daughter and asking her to send photos and videos “with the aim of obtaining sexual content”, says the PJ.

The Madeira Criminal Investigation Department of the Polícia Judiciária is continuing its investigation into the case, which may allow other victims to be identified.

The detainee will be heard in a first interrogation for the application of coercive measures.
