Monday begins with yellow warning due to rain and thunderstorms

Eleven districts in northern and central Portugal will be under yellow warning on Monday, due to the forecast of rain and thunderstorms, announced Sunday night, the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

The yellow warning will be in force between 7 and 12 hours in the districts of Braga and Viana do Castelo, because it is expected “periods of rain or showers, sometimes strong and accompanied by thunderstorms,” according to information available on the official website of IPMA.

In the districts of Porto and Aveiro, the warning is in effect between 9 am and 3 pm, also due to the forecast of “periods of rain or showers, sometimes strong and accompanied by thunderstorms.

In the remaining districts – Bragança, Viseu, Guarda, Vila Real, Leiria, Castelo Branco and Coimbra – the yellow warning is in effect between 12 noon and 9 p.m., because “showers are expected, sometimes strong and accompanied by thunderstorms, which may occasionally be hail.

The yellow warning, the least severe on a scale of three, is issued by IPMA whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the weather situation.

The IPMA predicts for Monday, on the continent, in addition to “periods of rain or showers, more frequent and intense in the North and Center regions, with the possibility of thunderstorms, especially in the interior”, a “small decrease in maximum temperature, more significant in the Algarve.

The minimum temperatures will vary between 12 degrees Celsius in Guarda and 20 in Faro, while the maximum temperatures will oscillate between 20 degrees in Viana do Castelo and 30 in Evora and Beja.
