MORE THAN 12,000 CASES PENDING BEFORE THE COURTS

The Madeira District Court closed the first half of 2023 with a resolution rate of 105%, closing 7,631 cases. A positive balance, according to presiding judge Filipe Câmara, who admits to JM that there are various difficulties in Madeira’s justice system, such as staff shortages, strikes and precarious working conditions. The courts reopen on September 1st with more than 12,000 cases pending.

This is the news that makes today’s headline of your JM, on a Front Page that highlights the record turnout at the Porto Moniz swimming pools. In the first seven months of the year alone, the natural pools registered more than 160,000 entries. August already totals 50 thousand.

As for the regional elections, there is a lack of police and better salaries. Trade unions and associations are calling for more human resources and a higher salary for professionals. The CNE has already received 47 complaints and requests for opinions.
