The fire started around 5:30 PM on Tuesday but was reported as controlled during the night, only to reactivate on Wednesday morning.

Ana Rita Dias described to Lusa news agency a “moment of concern” near buildings in that village but emphasized that the situation is now under control, ensuring that emergency personnel remain on site.

“We are in a phase that still generates some concern, however, it is more controlled,” stressed the mayor of the Vila Real district.

Ana Rita Dias reported that the reactivation occurred at a time when strong winds were felt and mentioned that the origin of the fire will be investigated.

“There were 24 people in the mop-up phase on surveillance, however, when the reignition occurred, it was no longer possible to control the increase of the fire,” she said, emphasizing that the population provided great help in fighting the fire at a more critical moment.

The fire is advancing towards the municipality of Vila Real.

On the ground, according to data from the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) website, there are 153 operational personnel, 48 vehicles, and six aerial resources.
