The Funchal Harbor Master’s Office issued warnings of bad weather and strong winds for Madeira

The bad weather warning, based on forecasts from the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), has been classified by the regional maritime authority as “signal six,” which represents wind speeds between 51 and 62 kilometers per hour from any direction.

“Boat owners and operators are advised to take necessary precautions to ensure the safety of their vessels,” the information states.

The strong wind warning is in effect until 6:00 PM on Thursday.

According to the port authority, the wind will blow from the north/northeast, “fresh to very fresh, sometimes strong from mid-afternoon” today, with good visibility and waves around two meters high in the southern and northern parts of the island.

The port authority advises caution to the entire maritime community, specifically recommending reinforcing the mooring of docked and anchored vessels, avoiding walks near the sea and exposed areas, as well as recreational fishing activities.

The IPMA has also placed the islands of Madeira and Porto Santo under a yellow warning, the second on a four-level scale, for persistent high temperatures starting today and lasting until late Friday afternoon.
