Town of Óbidos evacuated due to fire in Ourém

The fire is plowing with “quite intensity”, having been mobilized more means to the site, said source of the Sub-regional Command of Emergency and Civil Protection of the Middle Tagus.

The fire that plows with “enough intensity” in the area of Ourém, in the district of Santarém, forced the evacuation of the town of Óbidos, said this Sunday to Lusa source of Civil Protection.

Speaking to Lusa, a source from the Sub-regional Command for Emergency and Civil Protection of the Middle Tagus, said that the fire has an active front, which is heading towards the town of Óbidos.

“At the moment, there is no house in danger, but the town of Óbidos has been evacuated as a precaution,” he said.

The same source also said that the fire is plowing with “quite intensity”, having been mobilized more means to the site.

“Right now, we are waiting for the means to arrive so that we can start fighting the flames and extinguish the fire,” he said.

The fire in a bush area, which broke out today at about 17:20 in the Matas and Cercal and Casal Menino area, in Ourém, was being fought by 21:20 by 228 operatives, supported by 65 vehicles and an aerial means, according to the Civil Protection website.
