A 59-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly setting a forest fire in the municipality of Oliveira de Frades, Viseu district, the Judicial Police (PJ) announced today.
The woman was arrested in flagrante delicto by the PJ’s Aveiro Criminal Investigation Department, in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Unit of the GNR’s Viseu Territorial Detachment.
According to the PJ, the fire occurred in a place with mixed forestry, in the early days of this month, after lunchtime, at a time classified as maximum risk, and mobilized several fire departments and aerial means to fight it.
“The detainee, who offers no explanation for the act, will be brought before the judicial authorities in Viseu for questioning and the application of coercive measures,” he added.
